This is another special edition of Tattoosday, a variation on the Tattoos I Know series. First seen on Valentine’s Day, this is an episode of Tattoos I Love.

This category is reserved for the ink on my wife, Melanie, who turns 40 today.

Several years ago, I bought her a gift certificate for Body Art Studios in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. The owner and artist, Peter Cavorsi, is a talented tattooer, and he proved it in this case.

Melanie’s favorite flower is the iris. She wanted something pretty along those lines, and gave Peter a couple of samples of artwork as a reference.

What he came up with was a lovely interpretation of the iris, but with other floral elements thrown in. So, although based on her favorite flower, it is a hybrid that is uniquely hers:

I surreptitiously snapped this photo of the tattoo on her right ankle last year at a little league game in which our younger daughter was playing.

Work from Peter at Body Art Studios has appeared previously on Tattoosday here.

Happy Birthday, Melanie!

The flower tattoo is and has been popular since the introduction of colored inking and evolved detailing. Much like Zodiac symbols, the flower tattoo has meaning beyond its beauty. The floral tattoo has no gender borders. Flowers as a group represent new birth or tender age by the character of their existence being brightly colored, delicate and short lived. Each realistically inked flower has a meaning although there are many artist created inked flowers.

They fit snuggy with just enough room to wiggle my toes. I walked in the snow for maybe 20 minutes and nothing got inside, so they work great. The delivery speed was super fast. And although we’re no Huffington Post (or I Can Has Cheeseburger, for that matter), which tosses off 500k in a day, or a week, or a month, or whatever, this little tattoo blog is very happy to celebrate this milestone.

Tattoo Design US is set up differently to other tattoo design websites. It is not setup on a members site like others your designs come to you in a zip folder. I liked the fact I got all the designs so I could take them and browse where ever I went without the need for internet. Having the information at your to hand is attractive to some whilst others like the idea of logging into a website to access the info.

The download gives you over 3000 designs created by professional artists in forty categories. Getting a sneak peek at the designs before you put your hand in your pocket is a nice idea. The translation widget that comes as a bonus is brilliant and translates English into Chinese, Hebrew or Arabic. Go check out Tat Designs US for the best phrase translator out there.

The other two bonuses that are included with your purchase are an audio book and the Got Ink ebook. For first time ink getting their first tattoo the audio book will give you some great information about where to your tattoo safely and how to choose your design. Tat Design US is a very good investment for both experienced and new enthusiasts wanting quality design ideas and some great tools and resources. I strongly recommend you take a look at Tat Design US if you are looking for quality tattoo designs and if you are interested in having English phrases translated into various the translation tool is the best I have come across.

To top it all off you can also get a refund after 8 weeks. If after 56 days you can’t find a design you like just email Scotti Walken and he will refund every cent. That is definitely one of the best money back guarantees out there.

Tattoo Design US is a great resource for anybody looking for a quality tattoo for the first time. That said even if you are a seasoned tattoo enthusiast you will also find something here. I strongly recommend you go take a look and see for yourself. Get some inspiration from this stylish, trendy tattoo membership site. I hope this review has given you a good look into the site and helped you make your decision. Good luck with your search for your special tattoo design.

I was rewarded by the cooperation of Brian, who shared this, one of his five tattoos:

For those readers unfamiliar with ambigrams, they are designs that reveal images or words from both perspectives.

Brian’s tattoo, for example, reads “Life” from this perspective. But, when flipped, reads “Death”. In this case, a perfect dichotomy, with each word opposing the other.

The better ambigrams have a correlating juxtaposition, emulating a yin and yang approach to the art form.

Brian got this done by Melissa at Sparrow Tattoo in West Hempstead, New York.

I must say, as ambigram tattoos go, this one is pretty cool, and I’m happy to have it be the first of its kind featured here on the site.

Thanks to Brian for sharing his life/death tattoo with us here on Tattoosday!
