This is a tattoo that is typically represented by a circle which is divided into two equal parts with a spot of the opposing part inside the other.

The yin yang symbol starts as a circle that represents all that there is. All the earth. All of the life forms on the earth. All the universe. Everything in the universe. The planets, the stars, all life forms in the universe. And all of heaven and all of hell. It is then divided into two equal but complimentary opposing halves in a unique design. It is commonly represented in black and white with a spot of black inside the white and a spot of white inside the black. These are the forces of the Yin and the Yang. These two forces are said to be what makes everything happen.

Yin is the dark side or female side. It’s qualities are negative, dark, passive, weak. Common symbols are the earth, the moon, and the night.

Yang is the lighter side or male side. It’s qualities are positive, light, action, strong. Common symbols are light, day, sun, and heaven

Together they create change. What was dark become light. What was hidden becomes seen. As one grows, the other weakens and as one weakens, the other grows. However one does not grow without keeping with it a part of the other.
